Create an E-Invoice: Free & in the Browser

Creating a valid e-invoice is easier than you might think — and it costs nothing. You need neither an installation nor an account.

An e-invoice in three steps

  1. Enter the data: put the invoice number, date, seller, buyer, line items, tax rates and amounts into a form.
  2. Choose a format: XRechnung (pure XML, ideal for public authorities) or ZUGFeRD (PDF with embedded XML, when the recipient should be able to see the invoice).
  3. Export: download the finished file and send it.

Try it right away: create an e-invoice in the browser — locally, without upload.

Which mandatory details belong in it?

An e-invoice must contain the same mandatory details as any invoice under § 14 UStG, only structured:

For invoices to public authorities, the Leitweg-ID is added as a mandatory field — see E-invoices to public authorities.

XRechnung or ZUGFeRD?

In short: XRechnung for pure data transfer (especially B2G), ZUGFeRD when a readable PDF is also wanted. The detailed comparison of XRechnung vs. ZUGFeRD helps you decide. There is a dedicated guide for pure XRechnungen: Create an XRechnung.

Check before sending

Creating is only the first step — an invalid invoice will be rejected. So have your file checked for validity beforehand. The tool validates against EN 16931 and the German business rules, all locally in the browser.

Do I need expensive software?

No. For a few invoices a free tool is completely sufficient. When dedicated software is worth it is covered by E-invoice software.

Frequently asked questions

How do I create an e-invoice for free?

You enter the invoice data into a form and export it as an XRechnung (UBL/CII) or ZUGFeRD. With the browser tool this works without an account, without installation and without upload.

What details does an e-invoice need?

Mandatory details include the invoice number, date, the full address of seller and buyer, tax number/VAT ID, line items, tax rates and amounts. For public authorities, the Leitweg-ID is also required.

Do I need expensive software?

No. For a few invoices a free browser tool is enough. Dedicated software only pays off once you have high volume or need automation.
